Russian cyclist suspended after positive doping test
AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) Russian cyclist Eduard Vorganov has been provisionally suspended following a positive doping test.
The International Cycling Union says the Katusha rider tested positive for meldonium in an out-of-competition control on Jan. 14.
The UCI says Vorganov has requested that his backup ''B'' sample be tested. He remains suspended pending a ruling in the case.
The UCI says it's the second failed test for a Katusha rider in a 12-month period after Luca Paolini tested positive for cocaine in July. A disciplinary panel will rule in the coming days on possible sanctions against the team.
Meldonium was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of banned substances on Jan. 1.
