Jon Izagirre wins Tour of Romandie prologue in rain, cold
LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, Switzerland (AP) Jon Izagirre of Spain won a chilly, rain-swept prologue of the six-day Tour of Romandie on Tuesday.
Izagirre was six seconds faster than Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands on a 3.95-kilometer (2.5-mile) route around the watch-making town of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Former road race world champion Michal Kwiatkowski of Poland was third, trailing seven seconds behind Movistar rider Izagirre.
Romandie has been a good guide to the Tour de France in recent years with Chris Froome, Bradley Wiggins and Cadel Evans all winning here before taking the sport's biggest prize in July.
Froome trailed 26 seconds behind Izagirre, and around 10 behind Nairo Quintana of Colombia.
Izagirre will defend the leader's yellow jersey Wednesday on a 169-kilometer (105-mile) ride favoring sprinters from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Moudon.
