COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) The Tinkoff-Saxo cycling team says two-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has extended his contract and will ride one more year before retiring.

Team manager Bjarne Riis says it was ''extremely important for the team to have as a leader a champion of his caliber.''

Contador joined Saxo Bank-SunGard in 2011, won the Tour de France in 2007 and 2009 and was stripped of the 2010 title after testing positive for clenbuterol. He has also won the Spanish Vuelta three times - in 2008, 2012 and 2014 - and the Giro d'Italia in 2008.

Russian billionaire Oleg Tinkov says Contador is ''the best cyclist in the world.'' However, the 32-year-old Spaniard has said he will retire at the end of 2016.
