Youngstown State advances to FCS championship on insane last-second touchdown catch

Youngstown State is on to the FCS Championship after a wild last-second catch gave the Penguins a 40–38 win over Washington State.

From four yards out, Youngstown State quarterback Hunter Wells threw a pass to the back of the end zone on the final play of Saturday’s semifinal, which was hauled in by Kevin Rader after he wrapped his arms around a defender to secure the ball. It put the Penguins in front as time expired.

The catch was Rader’s third of the game, which saw him total 33 yards. Wells finished 16 of 24 for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

Youngstown State will meet James Madison in the championship after the Dukes knocked off North Dakota State on Friday.
