Youngstown St. 27, N. Dakota St. 24
Kurt Hess was 20 of 24 passing and Jamaine Cook rushed for 147 yards as Youngstown State handed North Dakota State its first loss of the season, 27-24, on Saturday.
Hess threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for a score for the Penguins (6-4, 4-3 Missouri Valley). His 10-yard pass to Cook put Youngstown State ahead 24-21 in the third quarter.
North Dakota State (9-1, 6-1) tied it with a 27-yard field goal on its next possession before David Brown booted what proved to be the game-winner from 30 yards out with 2:49 left in the third period.
The Penguins outgained the favored Bison, 451-293.
Sam Ojuri rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns for North Dakota State, while DJ McNorton had 77 yards and a TD. Brock Jensen was 11 of 22 for 133 yards passing.
