Yale's Reising carted off after big hit

Yale linebacker Jesse Reising, a senior who has signed up for the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School, was expected to recover despite leaving Saturday's game against Harvard on a stretcher from a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Reising remained on the field for more than 10 minutes while trainers attended to him. He was strapped to a stretcher and wheeled off as the crowd applauded to wish him good luck.

After the game, which Harvard won 28-21, Yale coach Tom Williams said Reising appeared to be OK.

"My understanding is that he's fine," Williams said. "It was a precautionary measure to take him off the field on a stretcher, but when he left the field he had movement in all his extremeties."

Reising collided with Harvard running back Gino Gordon, who was also hurt on the play. He was attended to by trainers but eventually walked off on his own.

According to the Yale radio broadcast, Reising was voted by his teammates as the most likely to be elected president of the United States.

Harvard defensive back Collin Zych was also very slow to get up earlier in the game, but he eventually walked off and returned to the game.
