Patrick Witt passed for 407 yards and scored on a 1-yard run on the final play as Yale opened its season by defeating Georgetown 40-35 on Saturday.

Witt completed four passes on the drive, which began at the Yale 36 with 1:27 left. The fourth, a 6-yarder to Gio Christodoulou, put the Bulldogs at the Georgetown 10. Alex Thomas' 9-yard run set up Witt's score.

Witt was 37-for-55 passing with two touchdowns. Thomas rushed 23 times for 90 yards.

The Hoyas (2-1), after trailing 27-14 at halftime, led 28-27 just 2:12 into the third quarter. After Jeremy Moore returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, Witt was intercepted, setting up a 2-yard scoring run by Lawrence Kee after a 36-yard drive. The Hoyas led 35-34 after three quarters.

Kee had eight catches for 129 yards and Scott Darby was 24-for-47 passing for 340 yards for the Hoyas.
