LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) Sparky Woods is out as the football coach at Virginia Military Institute after seven seasons.
VMI athletic director Dave Diles made the announcement Monday, saying Woods' contract would not be extended. His seven-year stay equals the third-longest in Keydets' football history.
The Keydets went 17-62 during Woods' tenure. They returned to their roots in the Southern Conference after 11 seasons in the Big South.
The Keydets were 2-10 this season in the Southern Conference, including 1-6 in the league, and they ended a 21-game losing streak against Furman with a 31-15 victory on Nov. 1.
