The Vols leading returning receiver coming into the season has yet to make his presence felt on the field as Pig Howard has only recorded one catch for eight yards in his first two games of 2015. During his Wednesday press conference, Butch Jones revealed his senior receiver has been battling an unspecified injury.
"Alton Howard is an individual who, as the week progresses, we see how many repetitions he can give us," Jones said. "He is nursing some things. We will see as the week progresses. We still have a few days left of practice, so we will see a little more where we are at."
Howard is one of few players on Tennessee's roster that has competed in the Swamp, missing his experience and leadership on the field this weekend would certainly be a blow to the Vols' chances against the Gators.
At this point, it appears Tennessee will just have to play the waiting game with Howard and hope for the best.
“I anticipate everyone else being available and being able to play, but it’s a practice-by-practice, hour-by-hour situation when you head out on the practice field,” Jones said.
