The Charlie Weis Story. Sometimes it seems like he knows exactly what he’s doing, and sometimes you really start to wonder.
He had another Charlie Moment on Monday at Big 12 Media Days in Dallas. He was up there talking about his recruiting pitch at Kansas, where he coaches, and it came out he doesn’t think much of his roster.
“Have you taken a look at that pile of crap out there?” Weis asked. “If you can't play here, where can you play?”
In other words, I'm Super Bowl champion Charlie Weis and I'm pretty great and if I'm not winning it must be that the players are REALLY bad.
Am I being too hard on Charlie? Is this nothing more than a coach giving a truthful (if blunt) answer to a question in symbiotic return for some publicity? Is this actually . . . a breath of fresh air?
Or is this a guy who went 2-11 last year, knows he has another bad team this year and is trying to set it up so he doesn’t go the way of Turner Gill if the Jayhawks have another momentumless season?
Does this man know what he's doing?
Hard to say.
