Vols could wear the Smokey Gray uniforms again this season
Tennessee fans were understandably cautious about their team wearing the new Smokey Gray alternative uniforms against Georgia, considering the Vols' record was 0-3 while wearing the previous rendition of the jersey. Now that Tennessee is 1-0 in the Nike version, fans want to know when the team plans to wear them again.
During his weekly radio show, head coach Butch Jones didn't reveal any specifics, but did not rule out wearing the uniform more than once again this season.
“We’re looking into that. You could see the emergence of the Smokey Grays a couple more times this year,” Jones said.
“I think our fans loved it. Our players loved it. Our prospective student-athletes with recruiting loved it. I think it’s been the talk of the country, and I think it’s a great symbolism of the great state of Tennessee, with our mountains and the Smoky Mountains."
While Tennessee fans are notoriously rooted in the team's history, if the Vols continue to win in the new grey jersey, don't expect much negative feedback from the fan base.
