Villanova quarterback Chris Whitney threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Wildcats routed Maine 48-18 on Saturday.

Whitney was 20-for-25 for 322 yards for Villanova (4-2, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association). He opened the scoring with a 1-yard run to cap a 12-play, 97-yard drive, then threw a 63-yard TD pass to Angelo Babbaro to close out the first quarter.

In the last 4:10 of the half, Whitney threw a 73-yard TD pass to Dorian Wells and an 18-yard score to Norman White for a 27-3 halftime lead.

The Black Bears (2-5, 1-3) cut the margin to 27-11 with 10:14 to go in the third quarter on a 20-yard TD pass from Warren Smith to Derek Session and a two-point conversion. The Wildcats responded with two touchdowns, including Whitney's 2-yard TD run in the fourth, to make it 41-11.

Villanova rolled up 559 yards total offense compared to 330 for Maine.
