NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Vanderbilt has hired Frank Maile as defensive line coach to fill a position that opened up when Vavae Tata pleaded guilty to a charge of drunk driving.
After being hired on Jan. 24, Tata was arrested Feb. 16 and suspended two days later. Tata pleaded guilty to drunk driving March 5 in an agreement that dismissed a count of leaving the scene of an accident, and Vanderbilt announced later that day that Tata wouldn't be part of Derek Mason's coaching staff this season.
Maile spent the last six years on Utah State's staff and was the Aggies' defensive line coach the past three seasons. Maile was on Vanderbilt's campus Tuesday participating in the Commodores' first spring practice session.
