USC Football Recruiting: Terrance Lang Signs With Colorado

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:12 p.m. ET

A potential wildcard for the 2017 USC football recruiting class, three-star defensive lineman Terrance Lang, signed with Colorado.

If you were looking for a dark horse candidate for signing of the year, three-star defensive end Terrance Lang out of Marantha High School in Pasadena might have been your man.

Instead, Lang signed with Colorado on Saturday after USC signed a full recruiting class, leaving no room for him to enroll in 2017.

A basketball player by trade, Lang is new to football, having played just one season at the high school level. But he’s a physical specimen who has coaches drooling, a trait you can’t teach.

Lang committed to the Trojans just before Christmas, but Colorado made a strong run for his signature before Signing Day. He gave the Buffs his final official visit over the weekend, but it seemed as though USC had won out.

On Signing Day, however, the Trojans landed their six major targets, which left no room for Lang to join the class.

There was talk of a potential grayshirt, deferring Lang’s enrollment until next spring, but that option was apparently rejected.

At 6-foot-5 and 278 pounds, Lang is a still-growing behemoth that should only continue to blossom into an even freakier athlete. He ranks as the 51st player in the state of California.

After Kenechi Udeze’s bang-up job recruiting the 2017 class, the Trojans are suddenly full stocked on the defensive line. That makes the loss of Lang, who still needs to show considerable fundamental development before seeing the field, no major concern.
