STORRS, Conn. (AP) UConn coach Bob Diaco says starting quarterback Casey Cochran sustained an upper-body injury during the Huskies' season-opening loss to BYU and won't play Saturday against Stony Brook.

Diaco made the announcement Thursday on his weekly radio show. He said Cochran did not inform the staff of his injury until midweek.

Cochran, a sophomore, and senior Chandler Whitmer split the quarterbacking duties in the 35-10 loss to the Cougars.

Cochran was 17 of 31 for 171 yards with an interception. Whitmer was 8 of 17 for 113 yards.
