Tyner leads Rice to 2nd straight win as Owls beat UTEP 44-24

HOUSTON (AP) Jackson Tyner threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns as Rice won two consecutive games for the first time this season, beating UTEP 44-24 on Saturday.

Jowan Davis rushed for 84 yards on 11 carries and had one score for Rice (3-8, 2-6 Conference USA), which lost six straight to start the season. The Owls will end the season against Stanford next week.

Emmanuel Ellerbee had 10 tackles, his sixth time this season to have 10 or more in a game.

UTEP (3-8, 1-6) got on the board first following Jay Mattox's 37-yard field goal in the first quarter. Rice responded with 34 unanswered points to go into the locker room leading 34-3.

Aaron Jones rushed 14 times for 75 yards and grabbed five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Metz threw for 169 yards and one touchdown for UTEP (3-8, 1-6).
