Texas likely down two key offensive starters against Sooners

The sheen has quickly worn off what was a briefly revived Texas offense, and now the Longhorns are looking at facing No. 10 Oklahoma without critically important right tackle Kent Perkins and playmaking receiver Daje Johnson.

Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls reported that Texas is not hopeful either player will be ready for Saturday's 11 a.m. kickoff at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Perkins will likely miss his second consecutive game after leaving the Oklahoma State game in the third quarter with a knee injury. Johnson left last week's game at TCU on the opening possession after fumbling and taking a shot to the head.

The Texas offense imploded once Perkins left against the Cowboys, and without Perkins and Johnson available against the Horned Frogs, the Longhorns offense was a mess, held scoreless until 5:14 was left in the fourth quarter.

Depth on the offensive line is scarce. Marcus Hutchins was such a disappointment against Oklahoma State that teammate Sedrick Flowers called him out afterward as not being prepared to play. Unproven receivers such as junior Jacorey Warrick and freshman Ryan Newsome could be asked to contribute.
