The SEC coaches and ESPN released their all-conference teams this week and the Texas A&M football team had several players represented.

Alabama led the way with seven All-SEC team selections, but Texas A&M and LSU weren’t far behind with five selections each. No SEC east players were selected to the offensive team.

It wasn’t a surprise that Myles Garrett and Christian Kirk appeared on the list. Garrett figures to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NFL draft. Kirk, on the other hand, will have at least one more season in College Station. Coming into the 2016 season, Kirk had better odds to win the Heisman than current front runner, Lamar Jackson. Kirk led the nation in punt return touchdowns (3) and led the SEC in receptions with 77.

Avery Gennesy had a great senior season, and it was nice to seem him earn recognition. Notably missing from this list was Josh Reynolds. Both appeared on ESPN’s All-SEC team, but neither earned the distinction from the coaches. Reynolds was 2nd in the SEC with 10 receiving touchdowns and scored in his final seven games. An argument could be made for Kirk and Reynolds in the wide receivers spots.

All-SEC Second Team

Evans was the only Aggie player on the second team. It’s worth noting than A&M didn’t have players nominated that lined up between Garrett on the line and Evans at safety. The defense made some strides this year, but there is more work to be done. If someone were to emerge at linebacker next year it could go a long way to significant defensive improvement.
