After scoring two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters and leading by 22 points, Tennessee State withstood a late Tennessee Tech rally for a 42-40 upset Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference play.

For the Tigers (3-4, 2-2), Mike German passed for 232 yards and two touchdowns, both in the first quarter. After hitting Jeremy Pryor for a score, German found Devin Wilson for a 14-0 lead.

German also ran for a touchdown and, unlike his counterpart Tre Lamb, did not throw an interception. Lamb passed for 348 yards and two touchdowns for Tennessee Tech (4-2, 3-1) but was intercepted twice.

After a 2-yard Dante' Thomas touchdown in the third quarter, the Tigers led 42-20. But the Golden Eagles rallied. Zach Sharp kicked two more field goals, giving him four for the night, and Lamb hit Zack Ziegler on a 10-yard TD to draw within two.
