Syracuse Football: Amba Etta-Tawo has become Dino Babers poster child
The Syracuse football team is going to benefit from more than just the one season from Amba Etta-Tawo. Dino Babers will be able to use him as the poster child.
It’s safe to say the Syracuse football team got more than they expected from Senior grad-transfer Amba Etta-Tawo. 94 receptions for 1,482 yards and 14 touchdowns is still shocking even when I’m writing it down now.
The problem with grad-transfers is that they’re a short-term fix. They come in for one year and provide you with a seasoned body that can only help you for one season. Although, what’s the problem with adding a receiver who has fully developed and is ready to maximize their talents?
That’s what Etta-Tawo provides head coach Dino Babers. Babers can use Etta-Tawo as a recruiting tool to attract some of these “free-agents”. And free agents seems to be the appropriate term for these grad-transfers who are floating out there.
Babers molded Etta-Tawo from a relative unknown prospect with marginal career stats into a bonafide NFL draft pick. Just like that Etta-Tawo has been invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl among a hoard of accolades.
Current draft prognostications have the 6-foot-1, 204-pounder projected as a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick according to CBS Sports. Although this is before he has the opportunity to perform at the Reese’s Senior Bowl plus potentially participating at the NFL Scouting Combine. Also on top of that SU’s Pro Day will be yet another opportunity to prove himself to NFL scouts.
If Babers did this for Etta-Tawo he should be able to sell that he can do this for any talented player with a year of eligibility remaining. The next goal for coach Babers is to successfully recruit in Central New York. It isn’t going to be easy, but Etta-Tawo should’ve made it just a tad easier.
