A suspended BYU football player says he violated the school's honor code by drinking alcohol and partying in Las Vegas.

Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that 23-year-old Spencer Hadley is ashamed of his actions. He plans to stay at BYU and is asking forgiveness.

Hadley didn't break any laws in his multiple trips to Las Vegas, but he violated the Mormon-owned college's honor code, which prohibits using alcohol, drugs and engaging in premarital sex.

The senior linebacker from Connell, Wash., missed last weekend's game against rival Utah and can't rejoin the team until the Cougars play Boise State on Oct. 25 at the earliest.

Hadley is Mormon and served a mission. He tells SI that he went to the Las Vegas clubs because he was curious.

In 2011, basketball player Brandon Davies, who is now with the Los Angeles Clippers, was also suspended by BYU because of violations of the school's honor code. It was reported in March of that year that the suspension was due to Davies having sex with his girlfriend.
