Summers with 2 TDs as Elon beats William & Mary 27-10

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Malcolm Summers ran for two touchdowns as Elon picked up its first conference win, defeating William & Mary 27-10 on Saturday night.

Summers had 120 yards rushing for the Phoenix (2-2, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association). Daniel Thompson threw for 96 yards and a score and John Gallagher kicked a pair of field goals.

Summers ran for a 21-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter and Thompson threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Cole Taylor and Elon led 17-3 at the break.

William & Mary's Steve Cluley threw a 77-yard touchdown on first down early in the third quarter to tighten the score, 17-10. Later in the third, Thompson took the Phoenix 80 yards in 12 plays and Summers capped the drive with a short scoring run to extend Elon's lead to 24-10 with 4:11 left in the period.

Cluley threw for 231 yards and a touchdown for the Tribe (2-2, 0-1).
