COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) Former South Carolina and Florida coach Steve Spurrier said he will not attend Saturday's contest between the Gamecocks and the No. 11 Gators.

Spurrier said Monday by phone ''it's not my place'' to be at South Carolina football games.

He is the all-time coaching victories leader at both Florida and South Carolina. He won a Heisman Trophy as Florida's quarterback in 1966, then coached the Gators for 12 seasons where he won six league titles and the 1996 national championship.

Spurrier led the Gamecocks to three straight 11-win seasons. He resigned in October, saying it was time for a new voice to lead South Carolina.
