Spartans close spring with a little bit of fun
Mark Dantonio comes across as a stoic guy sometimes, but he is clearly not against having some fun on the football field.
The Spartans have become well-known for the timely trick play over the years, and they let loose in the spring game by giving offensive linemen Donavon Clark and Jack Allen chances to touch the ball early.
After Clark's 15-yard gain on a throwback screen (which counted as a run in the box score) gave the White team a first-and-goal at the 3-yard line, Allen finished the job on a perfectly executed fullback trap. It turned out to be the only touchdown of the day a the White beat the Green 9-3.

"It's something I'm going to hold on to forever," Allen told reporters in East Lansing after the game. "I'll be able to say I scored a touchdown in the spring game. But it's just surreal, really. Fat guys don't usually get to carry the ball. I get to touch it every play, but usually just for a half of a second and then it's gone."
Dantonio explained his philosophy on trick plays in the spring game.
"We don't have a lot of rules in these spring games, except don't breakout new concepts," Dantonio said. "Anything in the past that we've done is open and the book is open and anything that they can create that is new is open, that book is open, too."
