Southern Illinois defeats Charleston (W.V.) 31-10

Ryan West came in for injured starting quarterback Kory Faulkner to throw for two touchdowns to lead Southern Illinois to its first victory of the year, a 31-10 win over Charlston (WV) at home Saturday.

Faulkner was injured late in the second quarter with the Salukis (1-2) holding a 14-3 lead. He suffered a shoulder injury to his non-throwing arm on a 6-yard scramble. He did not return to the game.

West came in to throw a 22-yard touchdown pass to LaSteven McKinney on his third play of the game, giving Southern Illinois a 21-3 lead going into the half. West threw for another touchdown in the third, a 10-yard pass to Kyle Newquist.

The Southern Illinois defense stymied Charleston (0-2) allowing a total of 172 yards. The Golden Eagles got on the board on a Puma Nuredini 49-yard field goal in the second quarter.
