South Dakota St holds off Northern Iowa, 31-28

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) Justin Syrovatka kicked a 44-yard field goal with 1:47 left, allowing South Dakota State to knock off Northern Iowa 31-28 on Saturday.

The Jackrabbits held a 28-14 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Northern Iowa scored two touchdowns in just over a minute to tie the game with 3:45 left.

David Johnson scored from 2-yards out to make it 28-21. Just over a minute later Ray Mitchell picked off a Zach Lujan pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-28.

Lujan completed 21 of 38 passes for 223 to lead South Dakota State (5-2, 2-1 Missouri Valley), but was picked off three times.

Sawyer Kollmorgen was 9 of 14 for 85 yards and a touchdown for Northern Iowa (3-4, 1-2), but was picked off twice, one of them returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Dallas Brown.
