Smith's 2 TD passes lift San Diego St. past Fresno St, 21-7

SAN DIEGO (AP) Maxwell Smith threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes and San Diego State held Fresno State scoreless after halftime to score a 21-7 victory Saturday night.

The Aztecs (2-3, 1-0 Mountain West) limited Fresno State to 89 total yards of offense, including just 12 yards rushing.

Donnel Pumphrey raced 33 yards for a touchdown to cap a 10-play, 78-yard San Diego State drive to open the game, but the Aztecs turned the ball over on a fumbled punt at their own 28 to set up the Bulldogs lone scoring drive.

Zack Greenlee threw 16 yards to KeeSean Johnson, capping a three-play drive to even the score at 7-7.

Smith fired 33 yards to Rashaad Penny for the first of his two TD passes, and then found Eric Judge from 44 yards out to complete the scoring.

Case Price and Pumphrey ran for 151 and 124 yards, respectively, to power the Aztecs offense.
