Smart on his way to visit Eason: 'I'm going and I'm going fast'
Kirby Smart's first battle with division rival Jim McElwain and Florida is currently taking place on the recruiting front. Both schools are currently recruiting five-star quarterback prospect Jacob Eason and the deadline on his early enrollment looms large over both programs.
During his introductory press conference Monday, Smart was asked about his recruitment of Eason - Smart is allowed to discuss Eason thanks to the quarterback prospect signing financial aid agreement papers with the school.
“He’s very talented,” Smart said. “He came to our camp (at Alabama) this summer and I got to see him throw. What a great talent he is, great kid.”
Smart revealed his intensions to fly out to Washington to see Eason as soon as possible.
“To be honest, I don’t know exactly how,” Smart said. “It’s been a whirlwind. But I’m going and I’m going fast.”
If Smart lets Eason get away and sign with the Gators, he will have lost his first battle with Florida. One reason Mark Richt lost his job was due to his inability to beat the Gators. Will Smart prove to have a better record against his rivals from the south, or will it be more of the same misery for Bulldog Nation?
