Second man sentenced in slaying

A 22-year-old Detroit man has been sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for his role in the shooting death of a college football player outside a downtown nightclub.

Anton Blevins also was sentenced Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court to five to 10 years for six counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

Cortez Smith was slain in 2011 during an argument in the nightclub's parking lot. A 25-year-old man was wounded.

Smith was a Wayne State junior majoring in criminal justice. He played cornerback and was the Warriors' defensive rookie of the year in 2010.

Blevins was accused of handing the gun used to kill Smith to Quintin King of Detroit. King has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder.
