Brian Bell ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third as unbeaten Sam Houston State clobbered Southeastern Louisiana 38-9 Saturday night to clinch at least a tie for its fourth Southland Conference title.

The Bearkats (9-0, 6-0) can win the Southland outright with a victory over Northwestern State next Saturday. Their previous three titles were co-championships.

Bell completed 11 of 20 passes but tossed two interceptions. That ended the sophomore's streak of 133 consecutive passes without an interception, dating back to last season. Not that it mattered. The Bearkats dominated the Lions (2-7, 0-5) from the start.

Tim Flanders, the leading rusher in the Southland Conference, gained just 45 yards in 12 carries. But he rushed for a 9-yard touchdown and caught a 20-yard scoring pass from Bell. Richard Sincere led the Sam Houston State ground attack with 137 yards and a touchdown.
