Austin Sumner threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns as South Dakota State held off Southern Illinois 45-34 on Saturday.

Sumner hit Aaron Rollin for TDs of 5 and 44 yards in the first quarter, then found Dale Moss for scores of 71 and 4 yards in the second period as the Jackrabbits (4-6, 3-4 Missouri Valley) built a 35-14 halftime lead.

Sumner completed 16 of 28 passes and also had two interceptions. Moss finished with five catches for 139 yards while Rollins had five for 133 yards.

Southern Illinois (2-7, 1-6), which lost its sixth straight game, pulled within a touchdown twice in the second half. Jewel Hampton had 167 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Salukis. Quarterback Kory Faulkner also rushed for two TDs and threw for another, but was 13 of 32 passing for 162 yards with a pair of interceptions.
