Rutgers QB honors killed NYPD officers in bowl game vs. UNC
Two NYPD police officers were fatally shot while sitting in their car in Brooklyn, New York, last week, which became the latest tragic story to bubble over nationally in a string of recent violent incidents involving police.
While much of the country rages on regarding police violence, Rutgers, which is located in New Jersey and a short distance from New York City, wanted to simply take a moment to honor the fallen officers.
So in the Quick Lane Bowl against North Carolina on Friday, quarterback Gary Nova made a very visible gesture by wearing an 'NYPD' hat on the sideline:

Others joined Nova in showing support as well:

As SB Nation notes, coach Kyle Flood's brother works in a specialized New York police force unit, and Flood wore a patch on his arm this week to honor the victims.
He said Rutgers wants to do anything it can to support the NYPD.
Rutgers beat North Carolina, 40-21, and Nova went 9-of-20 for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
