Report: Teammate says suspended Sooners LB Shannon set to rejoin team

If Oklahoma defensive back Zack Sanchez has his facts straight, then the Sooners are about to get a big boost at linebacker with the return of Frank Shannon from a nearly year-long suspension.

Sanchez alerted the masses via Twitter Sunday night:

Shannon was suspended by the school last summer for violating the school’s Title IX sexual misconduct policy. A female student alleged Shannon sexually assaulted her at his off-campus apartment in late January 2014.

Shannon, however, was not prosecuted in criminal court, but, according to The Oklahoman, universities are required to conduct independent investigations of all sexual misconduct allegations. Shannon suited up for the Sooners early last season as the process played out, but never saw playing time. Later, the The Oklahoma State Supreme Court ruled that OU could uphold its suspension, and Shannon left the team in September.

Shannon, now a senior, led the Sooners in tackles in 2013. His return would give OU an experienced, highly productive player to aid a defense that struggled throughout the 2014 season.
