Police are investigating a University of Georgia student's complaint that he and his wife were threatened and hit by players from the school's football team.

Athens, Ga., police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution a detective is checking into the allegations that four Georgia players accosted the pair in a taxi last weekend. No one had been charged as of Thursday night.

Georgia coach Mark Richt told the Journal-Constitution he was aware of the situation.

"Right now, it's speculation," Richt said. "We don't know anything for sure. But I'm aware of the (police) report, and I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen from here, really. I don't want to over- or under-react at this point."

The Georgia student said he and his wife were in a taxi when the driver picked up the four players, who cursed the couple and "slapped or punched" them, the police report said. The report didn't name the players or say how the man knew they were members of the football team.
