Report: Former 49er, Buckeye calls Harbaugh 'clinically insane'
When Michigan's coaching search began last fall with the firing of Brady Hoke, many in the media seemed to think bringing Jim Harbaugh back to Ann Arbor would be too tall of a task.
"Why would a coach who led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl leave the NFL for a college job?" the conventional wisdom went.
But when the 49ers missed the playoffs, Harbaugh and the club parted ways, clearing the former Michigan quarterback to go back to his alma mater.
Not a lot of concrete details have emerged in the time that has passed since, but 49ers offensive lineman Alex Boone told HBO for an upcoming episode of "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" a bit about what might have soured the marriage between the club and coach.
"He wanted too much, demanded too much, expected too much," Boone said (via ESPN). "You know, 'We gotta go out and do this. We gotta go out and do this. We gotta go out and do this.' And you'd be like, 'This guy might be clinically insane. He's crazy.'"
Boone, who was an All-Big Ten left tackle at Ohio State in 2008, also went on to say Harbaugh could be better suited for college since the time he has with them is limited to four or five years.
