Report: Brown agrees to suspension

Maryland running back Wes Brown, the team’s second-leading rusher in 2012, has reportedly agreed to a suspension barring him from campus for the season.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Brown now hopes to enroll at a community college then return to Maryland. He opted to accept the punishment instead of facing a university hearing on his conduct, his attorney told the paper.

Brown was suspended in July after he was accused of shoving a police officer who was trying to question him about a shooting. That case was later dropped. According to The Baltimore Sun, if Brown fulfills certain restrictions, some of which are related to community service, he will be “eligible to come back to school after the fall semester.” Otherwise, the suspension will last the full year.

“We support the University of Maryland’s decision,” Terps coach Randy Edsall said in a statement, according to The Sun. “I have spoken with Wes. He accepts the sanctions and understands what is expected of him moving forward.”

In addition, The Sun reports Maryland has suspended starting offensive lineman Mike Madaras for an unspecified violation of university policy. According to multiple reports, the suspension is retroactive and, therefore, Madaras is eligible to return on Aug. 9.
