Prarie View rallies late for 35-27 victory

Shaun Stephens caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from KJ Black with 4 seconds left and Yvarian Richardson scored on a 5-yard fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff as Prarie View defeated Alcorn State 35-27 Saturday.

Black was 18 of 23 passing for 329 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Panthers (6-4, 5-3 Southwestern Athletic) jump out to a 23-0 lead.

Alcorn State (5-5, 4-4) rallied with 20 fourth-quarter points to take a 27-23 lead with 3:30 to play on Brandon Bridge's 35-yard TD pass to Jacque Caldwell. Bridge had 180 yards and three touchdowns passing, and added 66 yards rushing and another score on a 2-yard run.

Prarie View began its game-winning drive at its own 22-yard line with 1:06 remaining. Black hit Michael Benson for 21 yards and Stephens for 22 on successive plays to bring the ball to the Braves' 35-yard line, leading to Stephens' go-ahead TD.
