Prairie View A&M pulls away from Southern 49-29

De'Auntre Smiley passed for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth as Prairie View A&M pulled away for a 49-29 victory over Southern University on Saturday night.

The Panthers (3-5, 3-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference), trailing 29-28 after three quarters, used a 21-0 fourth quarter to beat Southern (3-5, 2-4). The last of those three Prairie View touchdowns came on a 62-yard run by Smiley, who gained 170 yards in 14 carries.

His four scoring passes were distributed evenly, one in each quarter. Two went to Spencer Nelson, who also rushed for a touchdown. Smiley, 29-of-38 passing for 398 yards, also connected with Deandre Cooper and Gabe Dunlap for touchdowns.

For Southern, quarterback Dray Joseph completed 24 of 37 passes for 317 yards and four scores. Two of those touchdown passes went to Lee Doss, with Charles Hawkins and Michael Berry grabbing one apiece.

Prairie View outrushed Southern 247-90.
