For better or worse, the BCS era is over.
Enter the College Football Playoff selection committee, a panel of 13 members that will decide a four-team college football postseason as well as four other bowl game matchups.
What can we expect from the new system?
Fresh off his trip to the CFP spring meetings, Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated joins FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman to talk about the different approach and the debate it could cause, including concerns of selection bias from committee members.
"What's going to happen, and they'll be the first to tell you, they're not eradicating controversy with this system by any means," Mandel says. "In fact, it could be more controversial."
Of course, there's always the matter of the mighty dollar, and that could be a touchy subject.
"There are billions of dollars invested in this and that's being funneled to certain schools and certain conferences, and the power to determine who gets what amount of money is in the hands of these 13 people," Mandel said.
Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: It won't be a dull ride.
"It's going to be fascinating the first time that [the College Football Playoff rankings] comes out and there will be teams ranked significantly differently in their poll versus the AP and Coaches," Mandel said. "I voted in the AP poll, and it's not a very scientific process."
