WACO, Texas (AP) Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty plans to play Saturday night with another Big 12 title on the line, even while still experiencing some concussion-related symptoms.
Petty said he felt great even after waking up with a headache Monday, two days after getting knocked out of the fifth-ranked Bears' 48-46 win over Texas Tech with what the team called a mild concussion.
''(The headache) is kind of off and on, and it's starting to get shorter on and longer off,'' Petty said. ''And then when it is hurting a little bit, it's a lot lighter than it used to be.''
Petty hopes to practice, but on Monday had not yet gone through any concussion testing that would determine if he is clear to do that. The fifth-year senior didn't anticipate any tests until being free of symptoms after what he said was his first concussion at Baylor.
''I'll be fine. I think it's more exercise-induced kind of stuff, go through things, make sure everything's OK,'' he said. ''But as far as practice schedule, I should be able to go.''
Baylor (10-1, 7-1 Big 12), which didn't practice Monday, plays No. 9 Kansas State (9-2, 7-1) with the winner of the regular-season finale guaranteed at least a share of the Big 12 title. If No. 5 TCU loses earlier Saturday to last-place Iowa State, they would be playing for the outright title.
The Bears are the defending Big 12 champions, having clinched the 2013 title outright with a home win over Texas in the regular-season finale.
Coach Art Briles does expect to have Petty back against the Wildcats.
''He was here (Sunday) and was feeling pretty good. He actually felt pretty good at the end of the game the other day,'' Briles said. ''Of course he took a hard shot, clean shot. But I just saw him 10 minutes ago and he's fine. Smile on his face and determination in his heart.''
Petty threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns against the Red Raiders before taking a high hit from linebacker Sam Eguavoen, who was penalized for a personal foul. Petty walked slowly to the sideline and then to the locker room, but was back on the sideline before the end of the game without shoulder pads or his helmet.
''I'm in good hands and we'll make sure that everything is 100 percent,'' Petty said. ''I know for a fact I will be ready to go.''
Petty missed Baylor's second game of the season Sept. 6 against FCS team Northwestern State because of two small cracked bones in his back. He got hurt in the first half of the season opener the previous week, and didn't play after halftime in that game. He threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns in his return, a 63-21 win at Buffalo on Sept. 12.
In 10 games this season, Petty has 2,893 yards passing with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions. He had 4,200 yards with 32 TDs and three interceptions in 13 games last season.
''I said it in July that if he equaled what he did last year, he'd win the Heisman. He had a phenomenal year,'' Briles said. ''It's hard to duplicate. ... I'm very proud of what he's done. And the thing I'm most proud of is his determination inside of him.''
