Penn State's Barkley shares Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor

Published Sep. 14, 2015 2:52 p.m. ET

Penn State football bounced back from an embarrassing opening-week loss by beating Buffalo 27-14, and Saquon Barkley was a big part of the reason.

The freshman from Coplay, Pa., ran for 115 yards after coming off the bench and scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter.

For his efforts, Barkley was rewarded by the Big Ten, which named him Co-Freshman of the Week.

The Nittany Lion shared the honor with fellow running back L.J. Scott, who ran for 76 yards and two touchdowns for Michigan State as the Spartans beat Oregon in a matchup of top 10 teams Saturday night.
