Oklahoma offensive lineman Jacob Reed was suspended Monday after he was charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend after breaking into her apartment over the weekend.
Court records indicate that burglary and assault charges were filed in Cleveland County District Court against Reed, 23. School spokesman Pete Moris said athletic officials were aware of the charges.
''He is suspended indefinitely while the matter is pending, per OU policy,'' Moris said in a statement.
An affidavit filed in the case accuses Reed of breaking into the apartment at 3:31 a.m. Sunday and striking the woman and a man who was with her. The affidavit says Reed chased them upstairs and broke into a locked bedroom.
The man told Norman police officers that ''once Reed entered the bedroom he began to assault him.'' He said one of Reed's punches grazed his ear.
The woman told officers that she tried to stop Reed from attacking the man ''when she was struck in the nose and chest by Reed.'' When the man fled, Reed pursued him stating: ''I'm going to kill him,'' the affidavit says.
The woman told officers that she and Reed recently ended a relationship they had had since high school. She said there had been previous cases of domestic violence involving Reed but declined to elaborate, the affidavit states.
District Attorney Greg Mashburn said a warrant had been issued for Reed's arrest on what he described as ''very serious charges.'' He said the burglary charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
A native of Ardmore, the 309-pound, 6-foot 4-inch Reed played in one game for the 16th-ranked Sooners last year.
