For the first time this season, an Oklahoma player, Austin Seibert, has been honored as a Big 12 Player of the Week.

Seibert, a sophomore, handles all of the kicking duties for the Sooners. On Monday he was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his multiple contributions in Oklahoma’s 52-46 win over TCU on Saturday.

In addition to kicking a critical 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put the Sooners’ final three points on the board and extend their three-point advantage to six points, Seibert was successful on all seven of his extra-point attempts.

He averaged 44-yards on five punts, including one for 50 yards and two that were downed inside the 20-yard line. Only one of Seibert’s five punts was returned and that was for only two yards.

Seibert kicked off nine times against TCU, with five reaching the end zone for a touchback.

The Sooner all-purpose kicker was a semifinalist in his freshman season for the Ray Guy Award, recognizing the college football’s best punter, and was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Seibert is four out of six in field-goal tries this season, with a long of 39, and has yet to miss an extra point, going 20 for 20. He is averaging 42.5 yards per punt, and better than 50 percent of his 28 kickoffs have resulted in touchbacks.

This is the second time in his two seasons at Oklahoma that Seibert has been named a Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week. He received the honor last season after the Sooners win over West Virginia in Week 5 of the season.
