Oklahoma RB Mixon not reporting for team activities during alleged assault investigation
Oklahoma freshman running back Joe Mixon reportedly will not be participating in team activities, pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged assault.
Mixon is being investigated for an alleged assault of a 20-year-old female Oklahoma student, per multiple reports. According to The Oklahoman, attorney Kevin Finlay said that Mixon had not been suspended, but rather "held out of activities pending the conclusion of the investigation."
Oklahoma's football program confirmed that wording in a widely reported statement, saying that "Joe Mixon is not reporting for team activities at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation."
According to The Oklahoman, Sooners coach Bob Stoops did not address media during a Wednesday night event and was not asked about Mixon in a fan question-and-answer session.
Mixon is being investigated for his involvement in an incident Friday morning near the campus. According to multiple reports, the woman has accused him of punching her, breaking multiple bones in her face.
Mixon, through his attorney, earlier this week said that he acted in self-defense, according to multiple reports. The Oklahoman says that police continue to interview witnesses, but are having to weed through some claiming to have seen the event who were not in the sandwich shop where it occurred a the time.
The investigation is reportedly expected to continue into next week.
