A good win for this young Ohio State team.
Yeah, it was ugly – but it was just what the young Buckeyes needed. For the first time in the 2016 season, Ohio State struggled. I’m glad they struggled, they needed a reality check.
When you’re beating up on teams the way OSU was beating up on its opponents the first 4 games of the season, it’s pretty much impossible not to get overconfident. If we’re talking long-term, this game is going to help the Buckeyes a ton on their quest to the 8th national championship in program history.
Awkward.
That was the word that Urban Meyer used when describing this game. I don’t think there was a better word he could have chosen.
There’s no doubt that Ohio State raised questions about how good they truly are. JT Barrett didn’t even complete 10 passes or pass for 100 yards. 37 of his 93 yards came off of a TD that didn’t really matter.
Sure, JT ran for 137… But why? That is the one thing that I was genuinely upset about after the game. Why is the QB carrying the ball 26 times?
The Buckeyes can NOT afford to have an injured JT Barrett. Urban Meyer did state in his press conference that JT carried the ball way too much for his comfort.
Let’s focus on the positives.
Jerome Baker is really good at football. The sophomore LB had 11 tackles, and 2 for a loss. He seemed to be in on every single play. Nick Bosa impressed as well, and Meyer said that he’ll be seeing the field more in the future.

Also, we are so lucky to have a Punter as good as Cam Johnston… Watch some other college teams punt and you’ll see why. Cam is definitely in consideration for the Ray Guy Award this season.
Sure, I’m an optimist, but I’m confident that this game will help the Buckeyes in their quest for the title. I don’t feel any less confident about their chances at winning ring #8 than I did at this time last week.
Indiana is a good football team. Wow, that felt weird to type. But it is true. Anyway, it’s not like we barely squeaked by. Ohio State won the game 38-17… Use the transitive property, it will make you feel better. Indiana beat Michigan State by 3… Ohio State beat Indiana by 21 – Therefore Ohio State will beat MSU by 24. Is that satisfying? Yes.
A reality check was needed for the young Bucks, and I’m glad it was at home vs Indiana rather than up in Camp Randall on October 15.
