Ohio State quarterback up for the Maxwell Award.

We already knew it, but this made it official. Ohio State quarterback JT Barrett is one of the best players that College Football has to offer.

The Maxwell Award is given annually to the College Football Player of the Year and JT Barrett is one of 18 players that made the list. When you think about how many players there are in the NCAA, being one of the best 18 is a prestigious honor.

Although the Ohio State offense has looked boring of late, JT’s stats are nothing to turn your nose up at. So far in 2016, the Wichita Falls, Texas product leads the conference in Touchdown passes with 17. JT Barrett also has 6 rushing TD’s on the ground.

More from Scarlet and Game

Barrett is responsible for 23 touchdowns, yet has only thrown 4 picks this year. Barrett’s 147 passer rating shows how effective of a passer he has been. JT has thrown for 1,675 yards and completed almost 64% of his passes.

Arguably JT’s best quality, can not be measured with numbers. His calm and collected attitude has help tremendously in Ohio State going into both Norman, Oklahoma and Camp Randall to beat big-time teams on the road in a crazy atmosphere.

JT is already responsible for the most touchdowns in Ohio State history, and he’s only getting better. Being a semifinalist for this award does not matter to a player like JT Barrett, but it does verify what Buckeye Nation has been watching #16 do.

The finalists of the Maxwell Award will be announced in just over three weeks on November 22 before the College Football Awards show on December 8 which announces the winner.
