Notre Dame to interview Wake Forest DC Mike Elko

After turning Wake Forest into to a Top 20 defense this season, defensive coordinator Mike Elko has become a hot commodity with interest from several big programs. Elko is expected to interview for the Notre Dame DC job early this week, a source told FOX Sports.

Elko is in his third season at Wake Forest after previously serving in the same role under head coach Dave Clawson at Bowling Green. This season Wake Forest ranked No. 20 in the nation in scoring defense, No. 13 in sacks and No. 10 in turnovers gained.

Elko, who has also coached in the CAA, is a 1999 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly fired his DC, long-time protege Brian VanGorder, in the midst of a 4-8 year for the Fighting Irish.
