Northwestern State defeats Southern 55-14
Zack Adkins had 376 total yards and threw for three touchdowns to lead Northwestern State over Southern 55-14 Saturday night.
Adkins threw touchdown passes to three separate receivers in a 15-minute span. His 31-yard strike to Louis Hollier gave Northwestern State (2-0) a commanding 31-0 lead in the second quarter. Adkins was 22 of 34. Bryant Mitchell and Ed Eagan each led the Demons with six receptions.
Dray Joseph threw a 10-yard pass to Willie Quinn to complete an 80-yard scoring drive, to put Southern on the board just before half. The Jaguars concluded their scoring with Quinn's 98-yard kickoff return. It was Quinn's first collegiate kickoff return, and set a Turpin Stadium record.
The Demon home win was the first under head coach Jay Thomas.
