Northwest Missouri State football players given option to display GPA on helmets

Let's be real for a second: When you think college football, the program at Northwest Missouri State isn't the first thing that comes to mind. 

However, on Thursday, we learned via The Kansas City Star's Pete Grathoff the Bearcats are making their mark on the upcoming season in a unique way -- by honoring players who perform well in the classroom with a special helmet decal featuring their grade point average, major AND the academic advisor who oversees the student:

Recognizing the teachers and advisors is a pretty awesome feature, and it's clear the faculty are not only pleased with the university's decision but are taking pride in their students' achievements as much as the players:

Good stuff -- hopefully this trend spreads nationwide this fall.
