The Vanderbilt rape case continues to be ugly.
We told you months ago that Vanderbilt quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels didn't move the victim. Video shows that he never left his room that night. So when Nashville investigators compared multiple dorm room videos with a text message from Vanderbilt receiver Chris Boyd to determine what happened that night, they relied on the videos.
That's despite the fact that Boyd, whose texts were read in open court, sent a text message stating otherwise. (Judging by the reaction of some, you'd think no one ever sends inaccurate text messages. When, in reality, this happens all the time).
Now CNN, which has been working on a story for their Anderson Cooper news magazine for months, has finally decided to run a story on the case.
And, well, the Nashville district attorney Tom Thurman probably shouldn't make a quip about which team he roots for to justify the way he's handled the investigation.
"Matter of fact, I'm a Tennessee fan so I wouldn't be protecting the Vanderbilt quarterback," Thurman said.
And now this comment is about to be an Internet sensation.
Maybe, just maybe, you could get away with saying that down South, where everyone has a favorite SEC football team, and it isn't taken as a literal truth.
But on CNN when you're asked about a serious rape investigation?
Probably not.
You can't even suggest that your favorite team might impact how you conduct the investigation.
